Private medical insurance

Gen provide company-paid private medical insurance through AXA PPP.

Eligibility

Permanent and fixed-term team members and dependants are eligible from your date of hire with no waiting period. Eligible dependants include your spouse or civil partner (or any person living permanently in a similar relationship with you) and your children under age 30, regardless of whether they’re in full-time education.

Enrolling or leaving the scheme

To join the scheme or add or change dependants, log in to Workday (or through MyApps), and select the Benefits and Pay section. Clicking the Change Benefits button will begin the process of selecting or changing benefits.

If you are adding dependants to plans, we advise that you first select the Dependants section under the Benefits dropdown and add dependants there. They will then appear for addition to plans under the Change Benefits process.

If you wish to leave the scheme, raise a ticket with People & Payroll SupportNow. Review the Workday guide [PDF] and FAQs [PDF] to learn about the benefits portal.

Cover

Gen’s medical insurance is an age-rated scheme and provides cover for the treatment of acute conditions and the products and services that are used as part of that treatment, up to certain limits as defined by the policy. All treatment requires the referral of the member’s GP, and the consultant in charge of treatment must be an AXA PPP-recognized consultant.

Refer to the scheme handbook [PDF] for details.

Benefit limitation

The scheme includes a £100 benefit limitation, which is the amount each member must contribute towards the cost of treatment incurred each scheme year (November through October). The benefit limitation is a single deduction that is made per person, per scheme year, regardless of the number of individual medical conditions claimed in that scheme year.

Taxation

Membership to the scheme is taxed as a benefit in kind (BIK) and will appear on your annual P11D. Gen pay premiums in advance each year and report to the UK revenue office (HMRC) the total premiums paid on your behalf in the tax year.

You are advised to contact the tax office and inform them that you have taken up membership of the scheme, so that your tax code can be adjusted accordingly.

The amount Gen pay for this benefit is based on your age. This amount is visible in Workday when benefit selections or changes are made. If you wish to confirm the value, raise a ticket with People & Payroll SupportNow. You will receive notification of the premium that applies to you, which will drive your BIK.

Claims

Review the procedure for making a claim in the scheme handbook [PDF], and ensure that all treatment is approved by AXA PPP before any costs are incurred. Failure to follow the procedure may result in you being liable for the costs incurred.

For assistance, call the AXA PPP claim helpline at 0800 206 1808 and provide the Gen group membership number, 2751Z.
