Can’t work because of an illness or injury? Don’t worry. Our disability plans provide you and your family with financial protection while you take time to heal.
Short-term disability
Short-term disability (STD) coverage is 100% company paid.
STD insurance provides benefits for team members who can’t work and have missed more than five business days of work because of an illness, injury, medical emergency, surgery, or childbirth (including pregnancy disability).
Week 1: The first week is an elimination period where no disability benefits are paid.
- Nonexempt team members can use PTO, if available.
- Exempt team members must use five days of ADO, if available. If you have less than five days of ADO, the balance of this time will be unpaid.
Weeks 2–8: You’ll receive 100% of your annual base salary or on-target earnings (OTE) from Lincoln Financial, unless you’re covered by a state disability plan (other than a California plan).
If you’re covered by a state disability plan, you’ll receive top-up pay from Gen to bring you to 100% of OTE.
Weeks 9–28: You’ll receive 75% of your annual base salary or on-target earnings (OTE) from Lincoln Financial, unless you’re covered by a state disability plan (other than a California plan).
If you’re covered by a state disability plan, you’ll receive top-up pay from Gen to bring you to 75% of OTE.
Long-term disability
You may be eligible for long-term disability (LTD) if you’ve been on short-term disability for 180 days and are still unable to return to work because of illness or injury. Lincoln Financial will automatically submit your LTD claim as you near the end of the STD period.
LTD provides income replacement at 60% of your monthly on-target earnings (OTE), up to $20,000 per month. The amount of your benefit will be offset by any other disability income you receive, including Social Security, state disability, or workers’ compensation pay, regardless of the taxability of the other benefits you receive.
LTD is 100% company paid. During enrollment, you can choose how your benefit is taxed:
Pretax option | After-tax option | |
---|---|---|
Monthly premium | 100% company paid | 100% company paid |
Taxes on your regular paycheck | None | You pay taxes each pay period on the cost of coverage |
Taxes on benefits | Taxes are deducted from any disability payments you receive | No taxes are deducted from any disability payments you receive |
Disability benefit amount | Because taxes are being withheld, you receive a smaller disability benefit amount | Because taxes have already been withheld, you receive the full disability benefit |
How to enroll
You can choose the pretax or after-tax option when you enroll as a new hire or during the annual Open Enrollment period.
Workers’ compensation
If you are injured or become ill while working, you may be eligible for workers’ compensation benefits.
- Report a work-related injury or illness to your people leader and to People & Payroll SupportNow. For a medical emergency, seek immediate medical treatment. For nonemergency care, seek medical attention at a workers’ compensation medical facility, as directed by People & Culture.
- Complete all paperwork and provide proper documentation for your claim, as directed by People & Culture or our workers’ compensation carrier, Zurich.
- If you will be absent from work for longer than five business days, initiate a medical leave of absence.
